Our Story

Welcome to Novel Findings, an exclusive book, gift and home décor store in Kaikoura North Canterbury. We are located approximately a 2 1/2-hour drive North of Christchurch, New Zealand.

Jennifer Rush began her ‘story’ in 2014 where she decided to take a leaf out of her own book and purchase an existing store, she built it up to what it is today.

”It’s not your typical second hand book store, far from it” Jennifer smiles, “It’s light, airy, fresh, and has our stunning range of gifts, décor, homewares, fashion and books that you have never seen before, you will love it !”

Jennifer has always had a passion for books and décor. She loves to choose a diverse range of new books for her customers, along with her specially chosen and some hard-to-find second-hand books.

She took the opportunity to diversify her passion into distinctive home décor and gifts, her keen eye for rustic/industrial and original styling suits many peoples’ tastes, and she often gets complimented on being “extraordinary, a little bit different than the rest”.

In 2016 just prior to the Kaikoura earthquake Jennifer and her husband purchased a larger building on the main road of Kaikoura to enhance the shopping experience for Novel Findings. She took this opportunity to refurbish the building and to change it to the stunning store it is today . Novel findings premises are at 21 Beach Road, Kaikoura, in an old RSA building.
